Student programs

Gates Chili High School is committed to meeting the diverse needs of all learners. The programs described below provide personalized support, flexible learning environments, and targeted instruction for students who may benefit from approaches outside the traditional classroom setting. These programs are designed to help every student find success, stay on track for graduation, and prepare for life beyond high school.

Crossroads is the Regents content alternative education program at Gates Chili High School, which services students in grades 9-12. The Crossroads Program is a “school –within a school” that strives to provide the additional support these students need in order to succeed. It was designed to meet the individual needs of students, who have, for a variety of social, emotional or academic reasons, not met with success within a traditional high school setting.

Crossroads provides numerous experiences and opportunities for students to reinvest themselves into their education, experience success, and meet New York State Learning Standards and earn a high school Regents Diploma. Students are held to the same NYS standards as all other general education students however, there are significant differences from the traditional classroom setting.

Teacher instruction integrates life skills (e.g., career preparation, citizenship, conflict resolution, decision making skills, problem solving, public speaking, self-management, social skills, team work, time management, work-based learning, etc.) into the curricula and affords the student with opportunities to put the acquired skills into action.

Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection (HWSC) is a nationally recognized youth development program that helps students stay in school, achieve academic success and graduate from high school with the skills and confidence they need to be successful at home, at college, and at the workplace.

Students interested in enrolling in the program are encouraged to connect with a Youth Advocate at their school to determine eligibility. For more information, call (585) 247-5050 and ask for Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection.

The Monroe Community College Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is designed to prepare historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students for success in college and careers in STEM, health, and licensed professions. Through a mix of academic year and summer programming, STEP offers enrichment in science and math, Regents and standardized test preparation, college application support, and career exploration opportunities. Students also participate in engaging field trips, workshops and hands-on STEM experiences to build confidence and readiness for future success.
